I applied for a conditional use permit to house more than 8 people at each property. the neighborhood at Reggie's House came out against the permit. The neighborhood at Archie's House expressed their concerns but has been supportive of the home and its inhabitants.
The neighborhood at Reggie's House came out against the permit. The neighborhood at Archie's House expressed their concerns about the home but was supportive of the work being done and has continued to show support over the following months.
The permit for Reggie's House ultimately was unanimously denied by the City Council. Archie's House was unanimously approved. The two houses are less than 1/2 mile apart and nearly identical in size, bathrooms, bedrooms, acreage, and ability to house people. These meetings showed me what areas of our local government have knowledge of Sober Living Homes and what areas do not. For instance, members of the Metropolitan Area Planning Department had no knowledge of sober living homes. That was saddening. They have no knowledge of the benefits to our community that come from its Sober Homes, as well as the problems that exist from homes that are far below standard living conditions.
